I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who would say the first thing that caught my eye was the pink motorcycle. And I mean really PINK! I used to own a pink and black Sportster, but my bike paled in comparison to Kelly's bike, which has been totally customized head to toe. And it's INCREDIBLE! Although her bike is what first drew me in, it was the pictures of her kids and the love of her life that held my interest. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a family that is all about motorcycles. I wasn't sure when, but I knew one day I'd invite her to be interviewed and I'm super excited she agreed. Meet Kelly...
If you don't mind me asking, what is your age?
How long have you been riding, and what is your current bike?
I started riding dirt bikes as a child and was on my own motorcycle when I was 16-years old. I currently have a 2014 Harley Davidson Streetglide and a custom 2011 Harley Davidson Pink Road King. I recently purchased a 2017 Harley Davidson Road King with the new Milwaukee Eight. My fiance Chris Eder and I have some big plans in the works that I can't wait to share with everyone!
Did you start riding before you had kids or after?
I started riding as a teenager and had my daughter when I was 30 years old. I remember riding my Big Dog Chopper and being 6-months pregnant.
How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
I have one daughter, Hannah, who is 10-years old. I also have 2 wonderful boys who will soon be my stepsons. Cole is 8-years old and Liam is 3-years old.
Did you put your riding on hold when you had kids?
No. I have never stopped riding. It is my passion. When I ride it's my time to find peace and process life. No matter what circumstances or life situations I have going on, when I ride I am able to put all that away and enjoy what I love doing.
How does your family feel about you riding?
I started riding motorcycles with my dad as a teenager. He and I have traveled all throughout the country riding. I would not give up those memories for anything. He and I have a unique father-daughter bond that I would say is the result of both of our passions for riding motorcycles. I hope that I am able to provide this same experience to our children. I am a believer in families riding together and starting your children early.
Do you now, or anytime in the past let your kids ride pillion?
My daughter has been riding wth me since she was 7-years old. She loves to ride.
Has your riding influenced your kids to start riding?
Yes. Hannah, Cole and Liam already have their own four-wheelers and dirt bikes. We also have Polaris Razors that we take out on the weekends for family fun. Hannah has already requested her "custom motorcycle for Chris to build her". LOL.
If your kids ride, how do you feel about it?
I think it is great. I will support them in riding and learning motorcycle safety.
If your kids ride, do you ride together?
Share with us a story or anecdote about being a mom who rides…
The kids love to show all their friends our motorcycles. I often get the, "oh....you are Hannah's mom that rides the motorcycles".
What is your profession and what other hobbies do you have?
I am in the medical profession, and I love my career. I often get the "OMG that is you that rides that bike"! I have lots of hobbies but some of my favorite are: riding Razors with the kids, taking the bikes out with Chris and enjoying our time together, spending time with my dogs, and hitting the gym for a great workout.
Kelly's Bio In a Nutshell:
I grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina. When I graduated high school I moved to Charleston, South Carolina for undergraduate school and later moved to North Carolina to attend University of North Carolina for graduate school. After finishing graduate school I made a home in North Carolina and started my career in the medical profession, which I love! I met my fiance Chris Eder in 2014 when I was purchasing motorcycle parts from him at his previously owned business. When we starting dating I knew I had found my lifelong partner. In 2016, Hannah and I moved to Texas to combine our families and become one. Combined we have three children who all share our love for motorcycles. Chris and I share so many of the same hobbies and can't wait to share some of our new ideas with the motorcycle industry.
